We are determined to offer all students the best education, the best learning experiences and to develop the student through excellent social and emotional work.
At the ESC we provide students with real life qualifications that will take them to the next stage in their learning journey, whilst offering and supporting their practical development in areas such as Sport, Catering and Hospitality, Hair and Beauty and Construction. Alongside these vocational offers, we also believe that literacy can form the basis of a young persons’ success in later life. The ability for a young person to
be able to read age-appropriate texts, engage in their curriculum and be able to articulate themselves in debate are at the core of the ESC’s values.
Oracy is used at every opportunity in lessons which supports our students to become more effective speakers and listeners and empower them to better understand themselves, each other and the world around them.
Praise and rewards are used widely and often with students. We believe that rewarding students for positive behaviour, outstanding work and social development is key to ensuring we are changing the lives and futures of our young people. Some of the rewards we offer include Amazon Vouchers, Trips and meals at restaurants.
Another area we believe is crucial to the holistic development of a student is the PSHCE curriculum. We teach this during timetabled lessons but support this with Assemblies, Tutor Time and Visitors to the Centre where Equality, British Values, Keeping Safe, Literacy and Culture are discussed and taught. Our students are taught about tolerance and respect; they work effectively as a team and develop communication skills to prepare them for the world of work.
Aspirations are high for all our students and self-esteem, and self-belief significantly improves when students realise, they have the potential to be successful.
Students leave the Centre knowing they have the ability, belief, skills and knowledge to make a difference in the world.
Students that demonstrate our school values throughout the school day are awarded a ‘Compliment Slip’. Students awarded with a Compliment slips take it to the Head of Centre’s office, have their work acknowledged and celebrated and enter their slip into a half termly lucky dip to have a chance of winning a £25 Amazon Gift Voucher.
Students that excel in their demonstration of a particular value are celebrated at the end of each half term and receive a certificate to add to their portfolio.
Our School Values are promoted through the use of assemblies, displays, student voice, newsletter articles and rewards.
