North Herts ESC offer a Wednesday Programme of alternative provision for Key Stage 4 and Year 9 students in North Herts Secondary Schools. On the programme, students attend NHESC on a Wednesday morning/afternoon and their mainstream provision the other days. By working in partnership with the schools, we aim to ensure that the students retain their place in their school while also benefiting from the nurture, support and vocational opportunities we offer.

This alternative provision educational package will be offered primarily to North Herts Secondary Schools but will be offered to schools outside of the area if places are available.

The Wednesday Programme will offer Key Stage 4 and Year 9 students the opportunity to follow a vocational curriculum in:

· Construction; lessons follow the City and Guilds Qualification Level 1 and will include carpentry skills and Bricklaying.

· Hair & Beauty; this is an opportunity for students to have an introduction to the Hair and Beauty sector by following City and Guilds Level 1 Hair and Beauty qualification

· Cooking; lessons will work towards the BTEC Level 1 home cooking qualification. This will provide students with basic cooking methods and important life skills. A range of recipes are selected for the students to make encouraging a balanced diet

Students will be taught in small groups of no more than six students with a teacher and teaching assistant. Each lesson duration is one hour.

All resources for cooking and construction lessons will be funded by North Herts Education Support Centre.
